Thanksgiving….

This holiday is one that I have taken for granted all of my childhood and most of my adult life. As a child it simply meant another gathering at my Grandmother’s house with lots of great food and lots of family.

As an adult and young mother we went to my Mothers for the exact same menu just with fewer people. I enjoyed the holiday but I expected it and took it for granted.

Eleven years ago my Mother died and the Thanksgiving preparation passed to me. For the past four years Thanksgiving has been at MaMa’s house ( me) and although I’m exhausted when its done, I’ve learned the true meaning of Thankful. My grandchildren are such sweet joys that I finally know why my mother loved being a Grandmother so much.

Four years ago my youngest son was 14, high school freshman ,athlete and a good student. ( Life was good) Drew was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. We almost lost him and would have had we not been living in Houston Texas where a new LVAD was in clinical trials. This device has been used as a bridge to transplant, but in Drew’s case this device allowed his heart to recover. He is now a college freshman. I can not look at this young man without thanking God for this miracle.

Tomorrow when you look across your table at your family, if you cannot count the miracles there now, be patient, you will.

From my home to yours

Happy Thanksgiving

Sugarbaby’s

As we all know cupcakes are all the rage right now. We are seeing cupcakes replacing wedding cakes in some weddings or often are served in addition to wedding cake. The ways to use cupcakes in wedding celebrations is endless.

This week I stopped into a new( to me) cupcake bakery on S. Shepherd and enjoyed my visit so much. Sugarbaby’s has been open on S. Shepherd for about 15 months and their clientele has been growing the entire time. interior6

The decor is so bright and fun that I wanted to sit and stay a while and of course the smells of the freshly baked cupcakes were heavenly. I was impressed with the staffs dedication to freshness. The cupcakes are made with the finest ingredients possible and are made fresh daily.

They welcome you to call ahead for orders larger than two dozen. Flavors are rotated and some are only available on certain days. Their website has a menu of all the possibilities.

Sugarbaby’s has a great party room for a small group and will allow you to bring in food and drinks as long as you don’t bring in desserts from outside. This would be a lovely place for bridal showers and luncheons and as it was mentioned to me its a great place for that special little girls “tea party”.partygirls

Sugarbaby’s does not deliver and does not have the ability to make a small cake for you to use with your cupcakes in lieu of your wedding cake.

I was going to leave there the other day without sampling one of the cupcakes but the manager “insisted ” that I try one of the Red Velvet cupcakes( which is a very popular ) Yummmmmm

Give them a call713-527-8417 or stop in 3310 S. Shepard between Richmond and Alabama.

Bride Wars

I saw this trailer the other day and had to share it with all of you. Somehow I think wedding planners may even enjoy it more than brides. I understand the movie premiers in January and I can’t wait.

Southern Weddings Launch

The lovely ladies over at Southern Weddings blog launched their redesigned blog last night from the streets of NYC. This blog is on my list of must reads and I hope my readers will check them out and find some of the same inspiration that I find there. The “real weddings” that are featured are all beautiful and unique. We often must take our guidance from the East Coast or West Coast on many wedding trends but with Southern Weddings
brides from all over the country are taking their cues from the South. Congratulations and great job to Lara Casey and her fabulous team at Southern Weddings.
